Nowadays, there has been an increased focus on specialty food made with high-quality and fresh ingredients that are inventive and delicious. These foods are considered to have numerous benefits over standard staples and replace artificial additives with natural ingredients.

Specialty foods bring out more earthly goodness and appeal to health-conscious consumers with minimalism, concise ingredients, and nutritional value. However, like any other food, there are many myths buzzing around specialty foods, deluding consumers into believing they are expensive and an acquired taste. To help you steer clear of these misconceptions, Mindful Market and Eco Hub have debunked three of the most widely believed myths about specialty food to ensure you have the correct information.

Myth 1: Quality meat is too expensive for my family
This myth exists because distributors and middlemen push the price up. We get our meats from local farmers, and it is processed through local butchers. We don’t deal with corporations. We deal with the farmer down the road. Our meats are filled with flavor, and our prices are competitive. Stop in and look at our prices and our cuts. You will be pleasantly surprised by how affordable quality local meat can be. Take our ground beef as an example. It is locally raised by farmers who take the integrity of their products seriously. There are no hormones, no steroids, no GMOs in our beef.

Additionally, we have quality chicken, lamb, and water buffalo (yes, it is even raised locally), perch, and pickerel. If you want proof that we are competitive, come in and see our prices and taste our products. They will speak for themselves!

Myth 2: Gluten-free isn’t tasty
This common myth exists because most people haven’t tried it. Once upon a time, gluten-free may not have been tasty, but the gluten-free industry has changed substantially. If you find yourself having to eat gluten-free, like one of our store owners, please don’t panic. As someone who needs or wants to be gluten-free, you no longer have to deprive yourself of the good stuff. Our gluten-free freezer is stocked with small-batch gluten-free goodies from “Healthy Creations Bakery” in Windsor. We dare you to try one of their butter tarts, chocolate chip cookies, or turtle bars and not say they’re delicious! The proof that gluten-free can be delicious will be in your mouth.

Myth 3: You have to drive to the larger centers to find good, quality specialty foods
Food enthusiasts, especially those in small towns, believe this misconception, and if you think this, you haven’t been to Mindful Market and Eco Hub. Our foods aren’t just good quality, but they have LOCAL stamped all over them, and this is something we should all care about. You aren’t buying your food from a large distributor who has no relationship with the people who make your food. Instead, through us, you are buying your food from people we have built relationships with. We even have relationships with the small vegetable producer from Highgate and the organic vegetable farmer from Dresden. We have personally met the vegan nut cheese producer from Glencoe and the goat milk cheese producer from Wyoming. One of our pickle producers is also a valued customer of ours and will vouch for our quality. So for those thinking they need to go to the bigger centers to get their specialty foods, remember that at our store, we have an entire customer base who comes to us from the bigger centers like Windsor, Chatham, London, Toronto, and all sorts of places in between.
